The Final Mass at St. Bernadette Church

The Final Mass at St. Bernadette

Sunday, June 30 at 10:30 a.m.

All current and former parishioners, as well as St. Bernadette School alumni, are invited to join us for the final Mass at St. Bernadette Church on Sunday, June 30 at 10:30 a.m. The Mass will be streamed and may be viewed on our website.

At the conclusion of the Mass, we will remove the crucifix and the tabernacle with the Holy Eucharist from the church and process by car with them to Queen of Martyrs. (The Fire Department will assist us in transporting them.)

Before departing, everyone in attendance will be invited to come into the Sanctuary and make a gesture of farewell, whether by kissing the altar, touching the Communion rail, or any other reverent gesture you choose. I will then ask everyone to then leave the church, go to their vehicles and line up for our procession. We will process using the following route:


Those who are unable to attend the final Mass are invited to be present at Queen of Martyrs Church of St. Gianna Parish and create an honor guard as a gesture of welcome, as those attending the final Mass at St. Bernadette will be led in procession by our crucified Lord and His Body in the Eucharist. Following the procession, all are welcome to stay for a reception in Vitha Hall in Queen of Martyrs School at 3550 W. 103rd St in Evergreen Park.

As difficult as it will be to say goodbye to our beautiful St. Bernadette church, we hope that the solemn celebration of the final Mass, the procession, and the welcome provided to the crucified Lord, tabernacle, and assembly will be a comforting gesture of solidarity and respect to all those whose lives have been touched by St. Bernadette parish.

Please be aware that, due to the need to prepare St. Bernadette church for the final Mass, there will not be an 8:30 a.m. Sunday Mass that weekend. In addition to the final Mass at 10:30, there will also be a 4:00 p.m. Mass at St. Bernadette on Saturday, June 29 and a 10:30 a.m. Mass at Queen of Martyrs on Sunday, June 30.

As of Monday, July 1, all Masses and Liturgies, including funerals, will be celebrated at Queen of Martyrs Church of St. Gianna Parish. The weekend Mass schedule will go back to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Sundays, weekday Masses will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday. The rectory at St. Bernadette will also be permanently closed.
